Progetto sperimentale dell’artista Tullia Benedicta, NZIRIA integra le forme e i temi principali della canzone neomelodica, rigenerando al contempo lo scenario cis-eteronormativo. Attraverso un canto potente e androgino, reinterpreta le storie stereotipate e quasi archetipiche del genere neomelodico, accogliendo le narrazioni della comunità LGBTQI+ e cantando l’amore queer e le identità mercuriali. Nel 2022 ha debuttato con l’imprinting Never Sleep di Gabber Eleganza con un full-length intitolato “XXYBRID”. Registrato durante un periodo di blocco mondiale, l’album rappresenta l’atto psicomagico dell’artista per riscattare le proprie origini napoletane e reinterpretare alcuni topoi della cultura partenopea, anche attraverso il dialetto napoletano: la parola stessa ‘nziria è un termine dialettale quasi intraducibile, che indica il capriccio ostinato e immotivato dei bambini quando sono stanchi. È stata selezionata come artista SHAPE + per l’anno 2022 e ha partecipato al CTM Festival 2023 con una performance site-specific dal titolo “And Then a Flame Rumbled Like an Earthquake”, in collaborazione con la light designer/regista Bianca Peruzzi e le performer berlinesi Franka Marlene Foth e Janan Laubscher. Sabato 22 giugno il suo live al Dancity Summer Festival 2024.

An experimental project by artist Tullia Benedicta, NZIRIA integrates the main forms and themes of the neo-melodic song, while regenerating the cis-heteronormative scenario. Through powerful androgynous singing, they reinterpret the stereotypical and almost archetypal stories of the neo-melodic genre, embracing the narratives of the LGBTQI+ community and singing about queer love and mercurial identities. In 2022, they debuted the Never Sleep imprint Gabber Elegance with a full-length entitled ‘XXYBRID’. Recorded during a period of worldwide blockade, the album represents the artist’s psychomagic act of redeeming her Neapolitan origins and reinterpreting some Neapolitan cultural topoi, also through the Neapolitan dialect: the word ‘nziria itself is an almost untranslatable dialect term, indicating the stubborn and unmotivated whimsy of children when they are tired. NZIRIA has been selected as a SHAPE + artist for the year 2022 and participated in the CTM Festival 2023 with a site-specific performance entitled ‘And Then a Flame Rumbled Like an Earthquake’, in collaboration with light designer/director Bianca Peruzzi and Berlin-based performers Franka Marlene Foth and Janan Laubscher.
