Produttrice e visual artist, Wu Shanmin aka 33EMYBW è un’artista originaria di Shanghai attiva sulla scena musicale cinese da oltre un decennio. Le sue produzioni attingono dalla dance moderna, dal folk, da molteplici materiali visivi, così come dai temi del post-umano e dell’evoluzione. Il suo ultimo album “Holes of Sinian”, uscito a novembre 2023, trae infatti ispirazione dal periodo Ediacarano, una “nuova” era geologica di circa 600 milioni di anni fa che sembra abbia prodotto le prime creature marine su larga scala come licheni, vermi e cnidari, organismi multicellulari con anatomia e forme uniche. Un gruppo a sé stante, così come la sua musica: un raffinato mix di campioni, ritmi e melodie che creano straordinari disegni sonori tra avant-pop e ricerca sperimentale. D’altronde già il suo “Golem” del 2018 è stato votato da Bandcamp come uno dei migliori album elettronici dell’anno, con elogi di artisti del calibro di Kode9, Desto, Akito, 8ulentina e molti altri. Ha suonato al Nyege Nyege Festival, in Uganda, all’inaugurazione curata da Aphex Twin del Warehouse Project 2019 a Manchester, Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlino), SXSW (Austin), CTM (Berlino), Soft Centre (Sydney) e Recombinant (San Francisco). Venerdì 22 giugno la sua performance al Dancity Summer Festival 2024.

Producer and visual artist, Wu Shanmin aka 33EMYBW is an artist originally from Shanghai who has been active in the Chinese music scene for more than a decade. Her productions draw from modern dance, folk, multiple visual materials, as well as themes of post-human and evolution. In fact, her latest album “Holes of Sinian,” released in November 2023, draws inspiration from the Ediacaran period, a “new” geological era some 600 million years ago that seems to have produced the first large-scale marine creatures such as lichens, worms and cnidarians, multicellular organisms with unique anatomy and shapes. A group in its own right, so is its music: a fine mix of samples, rhythms and melodies that create extraordinary sound patterns between avant-pop and experimental research. Then again, already his 2018 “Golem” was voted by Bandcamp as one of the best electronic albums of the year, with praise from the likes of Kode9, Desto, Akito, 8ulentina and many others. She has played at the Nyege Nyege Festival, Uganda, the Aphex Twin-curated opening of the 2019 Warehouse Project in Manchester, Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin), SXSW (Austin), CTM (Berlin), Soft Centre (Sydney) and Recombinant (San Francisco).
